Def. an organic compound consisting of a carbon group double bonded to oxygen (Carbonyl group)

Examples:
1) Butanone, or Methyl Ethyl Ketone is a Ketone known to be a solvent in making gums and resins, also exists in glues, varnish and paint remover. 

2) Dihydroxyacetone, a ketone derived from cane sugar used as an ingredient in tanning products.
